Job Description Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel, Seller Services.
This position, based in Tokyo, will support Amazon’s rapidly expanding marketplace and fulfillment services business in Japan and related cross-border issues. The attorney will negotiate and advise on various matters from commercial contracts to complex, high-dollar value transactions and cutting-edge business initiatives; provide day-to-day corporate and business law counseling; administer and resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships; and provide legal review of procedural and government compliance issues.
The candidate also will be expected to participate in other Amazon legal projects as directed, including handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
Compensation is based on experience and includes equity compensation.
· Law degree with honors (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and law school. · Licensed to practice law in Japan and/or US or other common law jurisdiction. · The ideal candidate will have a strong transactional and project management experience. · A minimum of 5+ years of legal experience (with several years of experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation). · The successful candidate must be proactive, enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. · Must have ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in Japanese and English.
· Expertise in e-commerce, consumer, anti-competition and/or IP law issues. · In-house experience at an international corporation or a retail or e-commerce company. · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to act as a business partner to senior management. · Outstanding legal and business judgment, drafting, negotiation, analytical, management and leadership skills. · The ability to function as part of a global legal team and autonomously when required.
