Job Description

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Worldwide Financial Services team is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our fast-paced team and help drive AWS adoption in the Financial Services industry in Japan. As a Financial Services Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to be part of a team focused on increasing technology adoption of cloud computing by engaging with executives and influencers at all levels. You will work closely with teams across AWS to build relationships with financial institutions, from FinTech startups to the largest global financial entities in the world.

Strategically, AWS Financial Services (FSI) Project Managers are part of the Business Development team and seek to understand the needs of Financial Services customers, the overall trends in the industries, how customers define success, and ensure that we are exceeding expectations in developing and delivering valued industry solutions. Project Managers play an active role in developing business cases, analyzing project goals, creating plans to achieve those goals, and then driving the AWS team members, stakeholders/SMEs and potentially other third-parties to achieve those goals while addressing industry-specific execution challenges.

Tactically, AWS FSI Project Managers are responsible for managing project scope, schedule, and resources. Our FSI Project Managers leverage AWS’s delivery methodology to manage project teams made up of both business and technical resources. They leverage their management and leadership capabilities to identify and manage risks, resolve issues and escalate where appropriate to drive projects to successful completion.

Through their understanding of their customers, their solutions, and the key solutions vendors and system integrators who deliver those solutions, Project Managers build the knowledge and experience needed to position themselves to potentially become Business Development Managers on the team, who define and develop our industry strategies. Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a member of the Business Development team in helping to drive AWS marketing, sales, and technical strategies for the financial services industry
  • Participate in business case development, project goal creation and analysis, and in the creation of execution plans for achievement
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and resources
  • Create strategic business development plans for identified opportunities and ensure these plans are in line with the AWS strategic direction
  • Execute tactical business development plans while working closely with internal stakeholders including business development managers, sales teams, solution architects, professional services and support teams, legal and contract teams, and the AWS service teams
  • Identify and manage risks, resolve issues, and escalate where appropriate to drive projects to successful completion
  • Understand the unique technical requirements of financial services customers and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of our product offerings for our largest and most complex customers
  • Understand and exploit the use of Salesforce.com and other internal Amazon systems for campaign tracking and pipeline management

Basic Qualifications

  • Demonstrates ability to plan, organize and manage all phases of a project lifecycle to ensure successful delivery. This includes developing and managing project governance plans, project schedules, team goals and success criteria, and project milestones. Also includes ownership and responsibility to manage issues, risks, decisions and the overall success of a project.
  • Keen understanding of their specific industry or vertical, the systems that customers use, the top workloads for moving to the cloud, and the top solutions vendors or system integrators in the industry and their offerings.
  • An ability to identify and clearly articulate the IT benefits and the business benefits associated with moving various financial services systems to the cloud.
  • A team player who effectively integrates, motivates and builds relationships with cross-functional team members, sponsors, key stakeholders, executives, and other individuals or organizations involved with or affected by the project.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand the operating styles of others as well as team relationships, team dynamics, and adjusts behavior accordingly to succeed. Recognizes environmental or cultural nuances and adapts.
  • Ability to challenge, recommend and redirect teams as necessary for successful program and project delivery.
  • Actively looks for ways to improve process efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Takes proactive steps to ensure teams meet or exceed expectations.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience to successfully manage two or more concurrent projects.
  • Experience leveraging formal project management methodologies
  • Possesses a deep knowledge of project management best practices and how to apply them in an effective yet pragmatic way across complex projects.
  • A history of increasing leadership responsibility and career growth in project management.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with team members and audiences of all levels. Plans and oversees the preparation and dissemination of project communications.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office suite and project management toolsets.
Travel may be required for this role, up to 30%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years Project Management / Engagement Management consulting experience managing enterprise level IT projects in the financial services industry
  • Knowledge of leading independent solutions vendors (ISVs) and system integrators (SIs) in the Financial Services industries, especially those with repeatable solutions or offerings related to the systems used by quants, actuaries, and other data scientist-type roles
  • Understanding of and track record of working with modeling and compute-related systems, analytics systems, core systems of record, or market data providers
    (depending on industry/vertical).
  • Proven success in working with teams and executive leadership in a complex, large-Company environment
  • Ability to take ownership, work under pressure and meet deadlines on time
  • Team player willing to work in an international environment and be part of a global team
  • Proven experience working in a matrix environment, managing multiple stakeholders
  • Works effectively in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking and demonstrate understanding of requirements to execute
  • Ability to make decisions guided by policies, procedures and business plan with limited guidance
  • Results-oriented, prioritizes work activities, plans and stays organized in order to meet commitments
  • Excellent presentation, communication (oral & written), and relationship building skills, across all levels of management
