Job Description

Amazon Finance Operations (FinOps) is seeking a Business Partnership (BP) manager to lead the Japan and Asia Pacific (APAC) Corporate Expense Team in Tokyo to own and manage vendor payment processes, employee expense reimbursements, and the corporate card program in Japan and APAC countries. This position will work cross-functionally with Worldwide FinOps and represent Japan and APAC Corporate expense teams to various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will need to manage through ambiguity and complexity, while simultaneously supporting multiple projects launches. This position will not directly manage the transactional AP work performed at the regional service centers, but will partner closely with the centers to drive strong metrics, efficient processes, lower upstream defects, and strategic improvements. Successful candidates must have sufficient finance operations/accounting/project management skill and experience in order to identify and incorporate necessary reporting, interact with global finance technology team and define internal control elements for various processes of finance operations. This role requires excellent communication and organization skills, including ability to anticipate, identify, and communicate issues/risks and resolutions to FinOps, accounting, finance, business, and IT Sr leadership teams.

Successful candidates for this position will have the equivalent of 10+ years of professional experience with financial processes, project management, process design, and strong sense of controllership responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in leading highly talented and driven teams to accomplish complex challenges is also required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage Japan and APAC Corporate Expense business partnering team within FinOps department fromTokyo, and work closely with operations support centers in China, Philippines and India to execute accurate and timely payments/reimbursements to suppliers and employees in Japan and APAC countries, while focusing on areas for process improvements
  • Anticipate, scope and implement various types of expense payment process solutions for emerging business markets in APAC by acting as both liaison and process owner between various business teams and software systems support
  • Identify process inefficiencies and work closely with Finance, Operations, Procurement, and Technical Systems team to scope and implement solutions
  • Maintaining monthly and quarterly communication on Japan and APAC corp expenses (including employee reimbursement and corp card program) status with global FinOps team and key business partners with specific focus on risk areas and road blocks impacting the performance of the Japan/APAC finance operations
  • Conduct Monthly financial statement analytics related to finance operations and participate/lead discussions with senior management
  • Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Review of Controls around overall finance operations processes and attendance of monthly global controllership meeting to represent Japan/APAC
  • Various Audit support for Japan and APAC countries
  • Quarterly or twice/year international travel is required

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. in Finance / Accounting or related field
  • 10+ years of financial and/or operational experience
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Japanese and English languages
  • Experience working with enterprise-level ERP systems
  • Internal and external customer focus and a work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations
  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills in a cross cultural setting
  • Independent and Entrepreneurial – ability to work with minimal guidance in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Proven project management ability that shows how to organize, find solutions, and follow through to a successful conclusion
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills, and the ability to get into the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deliver results while managing multiple projects
  • Proven excellent communication skill (written and verbal) and/or confidence in communicating and enforcing difficult business decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with complex problem solving using Lean / Six Sigma techniques desired
  • Asia Pacific countries’ taxation and financial reporting knowledge is desired
  • Experience with Oracle Financials and/or Concur is desired
