Job Description

The Advertising Design and User Experience team at Amazon has an immediate need for an exceptional Art Director with a world-class portfolio and proven eye for the beautiful, the compelling, and the extraordinary. This position is located in Tokyo, Japan.

The successful candidate is ready to help Amazon think big and execute exceptional brand experiences across desktop, mobile, and tablet platforms (and beyond) for and its wide array of global advertisers. You will work closely with Sales and Marketing team partners to bring ideas to life to help drive new business. Prior experience in an agency or media design environment selling to global brands is highly desired.

The Art Director (AD) will be responsible for digesting core campaign requirements and taking the lead on designing rich customer experiences. This will include some direction of design personnel as well as individually handling projects from kick-off to launch. The AD may also work remotely with counterparts in the US and EU on the ideation and creation of interactive execution of all shapes, sizes, and platforms.

The AD will report to the Creative Director and will, on many projects, lead the creation and production of the best design solution possible for our customer and clientele; he or she will follow the direction of Creative and other internal management teams as initiatives require; is expected to demonstrate best practices for all creative and production work; and will represent Creative and Production talent in presenting to internal stakeholders, external clients, and agency partners.

Basic Qualifications

  • You’ve held an AD or equivalent position at a top agency or in-house group for at least five years

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Fine Arts or Graphic Design

  • Strong coaching skills to provide clear creative direction, and to motivate and inspire your fellow creatives

  • In-depth expertise in developing cross-platform solutions across the media landscape for major clients

  • Comprehensive grasp of the creative development process, including resourcing projects effectively, providing clear creative direction, offering timely guidance of team members to improve the end-product, and producing all work on-schedule

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Fluent in Japanese; business-level English speaker

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Fine Arts or Graphic Design

  • Designed mobile web and/or on-device mobile applications

  • Familiarity with marketing metrics and consumer insights

  • Ability to review third-party creative, offer clear feedback, and collaborate with our global Ad Policy team to ensure that agency-supplied creative meets Amazon’s high customer experience bar
