Job Description

Amazon Points program is Amazon’s rewards points program, currently offered exclusively in Japan. Amazon Points is one of the most strategic initiatives for Amazon.co.jp. The program aims to drive customer engagement and to drive growth of business, spanning consumer products (e.g., books, electronics, sporting goods, fashion and food) and digital products (e.g., Kindle books). We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager, who has a passionate interest in growing Amazon Points program and aggressively drives development of future Amazon Points program features. Senior Technical Program Manager, Amazon Points, will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end. Responsibilities include collection of business and systems requirements from internal and external customers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing the production launch. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between internal teams and outside merchants and vendors to develop optimal solutions. You will be expected to make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams. A successful candidate will have strong technical background in Software Development, high-level project management skills, be highly analytical, able to work extremely effectively in a matrix organization, adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into high quality, and simple products and services that customers love. This position reports to Senior Manager, Amazon Points.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define a set of high quality, simple products based on team strategy and vision.
  • Develop detailed, crisp technical requirements that can be used to create product specifications and architecture for each product and application.
  • Manage sprint review process, track project progress and report project status to stakeholders.
  • Partner with the engineering team to scope technical requirements, required resources and milestones.
  • Lead project management for key Amazon Points feature launches.
  • Get buy-in for the product and service development among internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, site performance and operational support load.
  • Work closely with the engineering teams and product manager to deliver products to market.
  • Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals.
  • Conduct timely analysis, investigate technical options and drive correction of errors.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience managing complex technology projects with aggressive schedules and scarce resources
  • Solid experience and track record of successful system implementations utilizing multiple project management methodologies, tools and techniques. Strong familiarity with agile methodologies
  • 3+ years of coding experience in Java, C++, and Perl
  • Experience managing efforts in Unix/Linux environments, distributed systems and/or developing large scale web applications
  • A first-hand working knowledge of current web technologies and Service Oriented Architectures
  • Strong track record of successful project delivery for large cross functional projects
  • Experience of project management of Internet products and technologies for PC and Mobile
  • Excellent written and oral business communication skills in English
  • Quantitative analytical abilities
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • Ability to be nimble and have a bias for action in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment




Preferred Qualifications

  • An MBA. or equivalent master’s degree is a plus
  • Previous work experience as a software developer
  • Familiarity with SQL is a plus
  • Career experience with a rewards points program is a plus.
