  • Job Description

    Amazon is looking for an experienced operations lead to play a leadership role in the revolution of fashion e-commerce in the Japan Photo Studio.

    Extensive experience in an operations environment is a requirement for this role. Additionally the successful candidate will be required to understand concepts such as lean operations, kaizen, and 5S.
    The operations manager will design and implement workflows to support a high volume of quality photography according to Amazon’s creative standards, while remaining within budget and turnaround time. This role will be the primary point of contact between the Amazon Imaging studio and warehouse teams.

    • Overall management and direction of studio operations
    • Oversee the flow of product and digital assets through all stages of the studio workflow
    • Sourcing and coordination of operations staff
    • Responsible for the definition and effective roll out of systems that track the volume and flow of product that requires imaging
    • Contributes kaizen expertise and drives a culture of continuous change into the studio environment.
    • Regular reporting on key productivity and quality metrics
    • Responsible for implementing studio-wide safety programs including disaster preparedness for Amazon and freelance staff
    • Responsible for the career development, performance management and training of team members

    Basic Qualifications

    • Associates degree is required, Bachelors degree is preferred
    • Understands Windows Operating System, has particular strength with MS Excel. Can easily learn a range of proprietary systems
    • 3+ years experience in an operations environment with at least 2 years in a management role, preferably in the retail industry with an emphasis on apparel.
    • Experience running complex operations environments while keeping within clear performance and quality metrics (such as turnaround time)
    • Proactive problem solving skills
    • Project management skills to ensure the successful on-time delivery of workflow changes, kaizen outputs and construction projects.
    • Understands the importance of tracking process improvements via management metrics
    • Ability to influence people and gain results outside of a direct reporting line situation
    • Ability to translate a business vision into a repeatable creative process, building collaboration and consensus between business units
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Japanese and English (native level)
    • An active listener, able to convey complex issues succinctly and with the correct priority
    • Calm under pressure, can excel and thrive in a high volume studio environment
    • Proficient on computers with MS Office

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Understanding of the fashion industry in Japan
    • Familiarity with product photography techniques, equipment, and professional studio setup - lighting, propping, etc
